0.11.24 — an account mark instead of a label

The header’s right-hand block gained its elements one at a time: the feed, two social links, the language switch, the stars counter, the way into an account. Each fitted easily on its own. Together, on a 360-pixel phone, they took the room the site name needed and cut it down to “Biały Brz…”. The header check measured four such cases, two on the home page and two on an entry, at 360 and 390 pixels.

The widest of them was the “Sign in” label. It has become an empty circle of exactly the size the account mark has once you are signed in: 28 pixels, the same outline. A reader learns one sign — empty means come in, a letter means you are here — and the header does not jump at the moment of signing in, because the same box stands there in both states. The label has not gone: it lives in the screen-reader description and in the tooltip.

A red dot can light up beside the circle, the same dot as beside the stars counter. Not permanently. It shows only when the browser holds unclaimed stars — that is, only when it tells the truth: you have stars that will vanish with the browser’s memory, come in to keep them. A permanent dot would mean “we want you to click”, and within a week a reader would ignore both, the one by the account and the one by the stars. The circle takes the number from the event the stars counter fires after the server answers; there is no second request for the same thing.

The circle alone was not enough. Measured on a local build: with the circle in place of the label, the name still got cut at 360 pixels, by a few pixels. So the feed and the social links stand in the header only from tablet width up, and so does the globe next to the language code. On a phone the right-hand block keeps to what is personal: stars, language, account. The feed and the social links have their place in the footer, at every width.

Checked with the header guard at eight widths, from 360 to 1920 pixels, on the home page and on an entry — no truncation and no overlap. Plus a separate measurement at 360 pixels with the stars counter showing twelve and both dots at once, because that is the variant the guard cannot see in a browser with no stars.
